Versio 19. helmikuuta 2013 kello 01.03

About

The scenario aims to provide tactical training for (new) players rather than trying to be traditional EiA campaign with all flavors. It's simplified version of The Invasion of Russia (1812) scenario, but focusing only to Napoleon's invasion to Russia, thus discarding western border of Spain and the naval war between France and allied Britain and Spain.

The main point of the scenario is that players will have to think and calculate various aspects of the game, including:

  • supply and forage
  • protecting supply lines
  • balance between forces
  • movement
  • battle
  • strategic position of corps
  • etc...

So it's basically good large-scale combat training.

Rules

The scenarion starts in June 1812. It can continue until December 1813.

Both Revolution and Rusolution tracks have finished and the game is in Phase IV.

Winning

The campaign has two sides: France and the Coalition.

France wins if following conditions are met:

  • It has held a Russian capital (Moscow or St. Petersburg) for one whole month without being sieged during the game
  • It has at least one of the two free-states at the end of the game:
    • Poland
    • Confederation of the Rhine with at least 8 of it's 12 areas (Baden, Bavaria, Berg, Duchies, Hanover, Hesse, Kleves, Magdeburg, Mecklenburg, Saxony, Tyrol, Wurttemburg)

If France doesn't win, the Coalition wins.

Land only

In this scenario it's assumed that all ships and fleets in existence are are occupied in a naval war between France and Coalition, which is not part of this simplified setting. Thus in this scenario there are no fleets, no sea supply and building of new ships is prohibited.

Starting forces

  • France 145I, 26C, 25G, 20A 6 depots, 55$
  • Russia 135I, 12C, 10Gd, 10A, 4 depots, 45$
  • Prussia 36I, 4C, 2 depots, 20$, 100MP (Note: Prussia has it's Freikorps)
  • Austria 95I, 8C, 5Gd, 3 depots, 15$ (Note: Austria has it's Freikorps)

Turkey is not part of the campaign and cannot be DOWed. The Coalition can use forcible access on Turkey and France has right of passage.

Spain and GB are not part of the campaign and cannot be DOWed or entered by either side, not even with forcible access.

The campaign should be played by two players but there can be 1-2 other players for Prussia and Austria. However, the idea of this scenario is to let two players to sharpen their battle skills.

Minors

Austria:

  • has ceded Tyrol and Illyria to France.

France:

  • Free states:
    • Poland 12I, 4C (Masovia, Posen)
    • Holland 12I, 1C

    • Confederation of the Rhine 65I, 6C (Hanover, Hesse, Baden, Bavaria, Saxony, Wurttemburg, Berg, Duchies, Kleves, Mecklenburg, Magdeburg, Tyrol)
  • Corsica is a French province, not a minor country.

  • has ceded Magdeburg, Masovia and Posen to France.

Russia:

  • Conquered: Finland, Corfu, Bessarabia.

Peace conditions, existing wars and enforced peaces

  • France and Prussia have 8 months of enforced peace left. France has the Prussian #1 corps in loan (16I, 4C, not part of the Prussian starting forces) for 2 months more. France has right of passage through Prussia.
  • France and Austria have 12 months of enforced peace left. France has the Austrian #1 corps in loan (15I, 1C, not part of the Austrian starting forces) for 5 months more.
  • France has forbidden Prussia to trade with America.
  • France has forbidden Austria to trade with America.
  • France has denied co-operation from Prussia.
  • France has denied co-operation from Austria.
  • France is in a state of war against Russia.

Political track

The political track is used as per normal. Victory points are not counted, but other effects of the track are as per usual with the exception that minor countries turn neutral only once a country drops to Fiasco zone instead of Instability zone. France should pay close attention to this.

Leaders

Full list of 1812 training scenario leaders

Following applies:

  • Charles of Austria has been exiled and cannot be returned. Bad weather at Elba -event can bring him back.
  • Mack of Austria has been exiled and cannot be returned. Bad weather at Elba -event can bring him back.
  • Villeneuve of France has died.
  • La Salle of France has died.
  • Bernadotte of France is a Swedish leader instead.
  • Brunswick of Prussia has been removed as according to the Blücher track. Blücher is available.
  • Yermolov of Russia is available.
  • Platov of Russia is available.
  • Barcley of Russia has been promoted to 336A.
  • Alexander of Russia no longer has to lead a corps.

When the game initially start for the first two rounds the Napoleon is not available as a leaser. Starting from the first turn France may utilize Massena and Davout. From third turn onwards if Massena is off-board, France may during the reinforcement phase replace Davout with Napoleon. This causes Massena to become unavailable for the rest of the game and Davout will not be available for next 11 turns.

Moscow burns

When France captures the Moscow (at the first time) the city is immediately burned... by Russians themselves, which causes following effects:

  • Russia loses -3 PP
  • The forage value of all tiles in Moscow province is set to zero (0), effect lasts for three (3) months
    • During this time, any French forces that start their land step in said area cannot be supplied from depots, and thus those forces must forage
  • Russia suffers the normal economical losses for a burned city.
  • No player gains money or additional PP penalties from pillaging rules.

Setup

France setups first into any areas that it controls or has right of passage to.

The countries of the Coalition thereafter setup into any areas that the country in question controls.

Player notes

Kutusov (Russia)

Don't allow the French to take Moscow with a small force! To ensure this, place a depot with 10I on Moscow early. Garrison all of your cities that are anywhere near the French advance path to Moscow. Delay the French with screen corps, harass them with your cossacks and keep your main armies out of striking distance. Your two (maybe three) armies should, once you are sure Moscow is the main target, meet there and offer battle. Be careful! Your objective is not to win the battle, but to escape with light losses.

Once La Grande Armee is in Moscow, screen them in. Let NONE escape Russia! Unfortunately, the French will likely use their double move to breach your line and run. Pursuit with reckless abandon! Don't allow the French to reset the double move! Attack, attack, attack! Go for their supply lines and don't allow your forces to be delayed.

Blucher (Prussia)

To trade or not to trade? Can you afford a French DOW early on? That's your first decision.

Once your army is on board and you can DOW, do so. French to your east are more important than the French to your west, but you need to address both issues.

Get some Russians in Blucher's mains army ASAP and then go for the jugular. Wear out the French and win, try something fancy and lose.

Swarzenberg (Austria)

Coalition should be winning already and your attack is the final nail in the coffin. Blast ahead with full speed and never mind the casualties.

Napoleon (French in Russia)

Read the bit for Kutusov. That's NOT how you want this to go down. Look for a chance to crush the Russian armies BEFORE you meet them in Moscow. Mutual destruction is a good outcome, as long as you can get Moscow too.

If you can't do that, get to Moscow, hold it for a turn and get the fuck out! Prussia and Russia combined is a monster and to defeat that monster, you need every damn soldier you got! You'll likely need the double move to escape Russia. Escaping Prussia may be impossible. Think the Warsaw as a way-point here. If you can get there just before Prussia attacks, it may give you a breath you need, but do not hold to it! Escape to the Rhine Confederation ASAP and make your stand there!
